CER awarded significant grant to advance the use of administrative data for the public good

As part of a consortium of cross-disciplinary experts, CER Professor Peter Urwin has been awarded a significant grant from Administrative Data Research UK (ADR UK) to advance the use of administrative data for the public good, with a focus on youth transitions.

The ADR England Research Community Catalysts Youth Transitions initiative is funded by ADR UK, the Youth Futures Foundation and The Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education. Dr Angela Donkin, on behalf of the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER), will be the Principal Investigator. Co-Investigators include Dr Jake Anders (University College London), David Thomson (FFT Education Datalab), Dr Alex Sutherland (Behavioural Insights Team), as well as Professor Peter Urwin (University of Westminster).

Bringing together a cross-disciplinary team of experts, the scheme will build capacity for administrative data research on youth transitions and act as a focal point to develop a diverse, cross-sector research community.

This scheme will exploit the significant expertise in the use of administrative data that the CER team has developed over the past two decades to fill in the gaps about “what works” for young people with disrupted or atypical journeys through education and the labour market. The consortium’s collective knowledge on youth transitions will harness the potential of administrative data to improve outcomes for young people and reduce inequalities.
